Chef Sera Cuni founded Root Cellar Cafe and Catering with her love of fresh, flavorful foods in 2013. Classically trained in culinary arts, she draws her inspiration from Italian and Czech family cooking traditions as well as early kitchen experiences in Connecticut which helped develop into what she is cooking today: creative American dishes focused around seasonal ingredients.
Following their highly successful first location in Chapel Hill, Cafe Root Cellar expanded into Pittsboro in 2018. Situated within Penguin Place’s Chatham Park development and being the first retail space to open there. Mirroring much of its menu from Chapel Hill with slight modifications and rebranding to match with Pittsboro;
The Root Cellar is an independently owned and operated cafe, bakery and catering company offering scratch-made comfort foods, sandwiches, baked goods and locally roasted coffee. Open daily for lunch and dinner service as well as breakfast from 7:30 am to noon during weekdays (7:30 am on weekends), their catering business specializes in full service events on-site and offsite delivery; their restaurant sells ready made dinners as a fast, healthy meal option to take home with them.
